#BPL16 Day Four: Finals hunt wide open

by Lachlan Williams on November 11, 2022

The hunt for #BPL16 finals places will come down to the wire, with the top five far from locked in with three rounds left to play.

The Sydney Lions, Moreton Bay Pirates and Melbourne Pulse consolidated their strong positions heading into the fourth day of play, with all three teams locking away their spot in the finals.

The highlight of the day came from the final match between the Pirates and Gold Coast Hawks, with a raucous Club Pine Rivers crowd creating an atmosphere to be remembered.

In a match that ended with a thrilling final-bowl Pirates victory, Jo Edwards stole the show, with Alex Marshall describing her performance as the best by a lead he has ever seen in the BPL.

The Pirates and Pulse sit comfortable with 10 wins each, with Sydney a win clear atop the table.

With just three rounds left to play before finals on Friday, the remaining two finals spots are anyone’s for the taking.

The Adelaide Pioneers hold the strongest hand of the finals hopefuls, with eight wins keeping them in the positive side of the win-loss ledger and a game clear of their closest competitor, sitting in fourth.

The Melbourne eXtreme sit a win back with seven victories to their name, then comes the logjam.

The Moama Steamers, Gold Coast Hawks, Perth Suns and Tasmania Tridents all sit with six wins each, and will be relying on slip ups from the teams ahead of them to feature in Friday night’s finals action.

With such a tight run home, net set points, set points and even shot differential could become a factor in determining who plays finals.

Friday’s play commences from 10am AEST, with finals getting under way from 4pm AEST, once again to be broadcast live on Fox Sports, Kayo & Sky Sport NZ.
