Champ of Champs down to the wire
The Australian Champion of Champions will come down to the wire in the men’s competition, with four competitors level on four wins, while NT’s Colleen Orr is in the box seat to claim a title in the women’s event. Western Australia’s Clive Adams has moved to the top of the leaderboard going into the final round of the Australian Champion of Champions, but must secure victory this afternoon to take the title.
There is a logjam of four competitors vying for the prestigious trophy in the men’s event, after NSW’s Jono Davis upstaged Victoria’s Barrie Lester, which relinquished Lester’s one game buffer at the top of the table.
Adams has a 31 better shot differential than his nearest opponent, Tasmania’s Lee Schraner,
after he prevailed by 10 shots over Australian Jackaroo Wayne Rueidger, from South Australia.
While the Western Australian is in the box seat, the gold medal will be determined by a count back, with Adams needing to secure a win against the Northern Territory’s Trystan Smallacombe, given Schraner and Lester will meet in the last round; assuring one of them will finish on five wins.
Davis also still in the mix but must overcome Ruediger and make up a 42 shot differential to leap-frog from fourth to first.
In the women’s event, Darwin’s Colleen Orr has a one-game buffer over South Australia’s Cassandra Harvey as the outright leader, and will secure the title if she is triumphant over Western Australia’s Pauline Bourne by any margin.
The last round of the 2017 Australian Champion of Champions is set to commence from 12.00pm local time (1.30pm AEDT).
