Flood-affected Woodend latest Disaster Relief Fund recipient

Flood affected bowls clubs from around the country have been provided a helping hand on their path to recovery courtesy of Bowls Australia’s Disaster Relief Fund (DRF).

This year has seen flooding cause devastation to clubs and communities across the country, with some areas experiencing multiple disasters.

The DRF was established more than 10 years ago to provide financial assistance to clubs impacted by natural disasters, unfortunately being called upon by bushfire and flood affected clubs in recent years.

Woodend Bowling Club (Victoria) is the most recent recipient of fund allocation from the DRF, after receiving significant damage to their carpet green and maintenance equipment during floods in mid-October.

They have been allocated more than $2000 to help cover costs of maintenance equipment, including a backlapper which was completely submerged in the floods, destroying the electric motor.

As seen with previous natural disasters, Bowls Australia is calling on the bowls community to dig deep and help fellow clubs in need in any way they can.

“Unfortunately we continue to see the DRF called upon to assist clubs, with more and more natural disasters occurring,”

Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple said.

“We have previously seen the bowls community come together, show their generosity and helping spirit to help other clubs in need, and we are once again calling on that same show of support.”

Bowls Australia is committed to redirecting one-hundred per cent of all sums raised back to those clubs in need, who are able to access monies from the fund via an application process.

Clubs that are impacted by recent flooding can apply to receive financial assistance from DRF.

“We would ask any club that has been impacted to reach out for help, because there is support here for you,” Mr Dalrymple said.
