The Northern Territory and Western Australian competitors headline the 2017 Australian Champion of Champions event so far, with both men’s and women’s players enjoying an untarnished run.

Three men’s players have retained an unblemished record after the second round of the 2017 Australian Champion of Champions at Darwin Bowls and Social Club.

Western Australia’s Clive Adams, Northern Territory’s Trystan Smallacombe and Victoria’s Barrie Lester all notched up the successive victories to break away from the pack this afternoon.

Adams headlines the ladder positioning after the two rounds, following a comprehensive 21-3 victory in just 60 minutes against the ACT’s Breeze Howard, which followed on from his earlier win over young-gun Jono Davis.

Following closely on his heels is local favourite Smallacombe, who upstaged Queensland skipper Kurt Brown 21-14, after earlier prevailing against South Australia’s Wayne Reudiger.

Also maintaining an unblemished record is Lester, who handed his Australian Jackaroos teammate Ruediger his second straight loss on the Rinkside Live live-streamed feature match, 21-13.

That Rinkside Live encounter can be relived here on Bowls Australia’s Facebook page.

In the women’s event, Darwin product Colleen Orr is giving the parochial crowd even more to cheer about, having also triumphed in her two rubbers.

Orr claimed the scalp of Queensland state representative Cassandra Millerick 21-10, on the back of her earlier win against South Australia’s Cassandra Harvey.

Joining her at the top the leaderboard is Western Australia’s Pauline Bourne, who prevailed against ACT’s Chloe Morrison 21-10, after earlier upstaging NSW’s former Australian representative Beth Quinlan.

There will be one more round staged today, from 2.30pm local time, with NSW pitted against ACT, Queensland squaring off against South Australia, Victoria encountering Northern Territory and Western Australia facing Tasmania.

Play will continue at Darwin Bowls and Social Club until Friday, with two more rounds staged tomorrow and a further two on Friday to wrap up this seven rubber round robin competition.
