by Lachlan Williams on October 3, 2022

Queensland’s men and Victoria’s women are in the box seat approaching the halfway point of the 2022 Australian Senior Sides Championships at Broadbeach.

Two more rounds were completed on Monday as the country’s top over-60s bowlers put their best foot forward for their states and territories.

Today’s action had:

  • WA v TAS, NSW v SA, VIC v QLD, NT v ACT
  • NT v QLD, ACT v VIC, WA v SA, NSW v TAS

There is plenty to be determined on Tuesday, moving day of the competition.

Women’s Senior Sides

After a strong opening round win on day one, Victoria sits atop the women’s competition undefeated after three rounds.

The Big V took down host-state Queensland by six shots, collecting wins on two rinks before a solid 10-shot win over the ACT in round 3, picking up a further two rinks.

Queensland bounced back after their loss to Victoria with a big win over the NT to sit in second place after the second day of play.

After a first round loss to Western Australia, NSW bounced back with two strong victories, dropping just one rink on Monday.

South Australia and Western Australia also have two wins to their name after three rounds.

Standings are tight with four rounds remaining, with Victoria on top, three shots clear of Queensland. South Australia sits third with 12 points, while NSW and Western Australia aren’t too far back on 11.

Men’s Senior Sides

A round two win over Victoria could go a long way to helping Queensland win in front of a home crowd, as they sit atop the men’s standings after three matches.

In a hard fought contest, Queensland won two rinks by two shots, dropping the other by two to take a crucial win 52-50.

Victoria sit in second place, taking a win over the ACT in round three to keep in touch with the Queenslanders.

Despite dropping two rinks, Tasmania claimed a hard-fought 54-52 win over NSW in the second match of the day. Tony Vince’s rink managed a 21-9 win to help steer the Tasmanians over the line for their first win of the week.

The win was an important one for the Apple Isle, bouncing back from a one-shot loss to WA in round two, despite winning two rinks.

South Australia and NSW go into day three of competition level on 11 points, behind Victoria on 13 and Queensland on top with 16.

ACT, Western Australia and Tasmania all have seven points each.
